Cut Tofu-
Slice Tofu into roughly 1-2 cm wedges. Cut each wedge diagonally, creating triangle like shapes.
Coat-
Add the Cornflour into a large bowl, then drop Tofu in and coat evenly until every side is covered. Set aside. -NOTE
Fry-
Add Vegetable Oil into a large Frying Pan and heat until the temperature reaches 180c/350f. Carefully fry Tofu in batches until each side is golden brown and crisp. Set aside on a paper towel to prevent excess oil. If pan runs dry, add more oil accordingly and bring back to temperature. – NOTE
Sauce-
In the same frying pan, add all of the tofu back in at once. Pour the sauce all over the tofu and fry until slightly thickened.
Enjoy!-
Serve with a generous amount of Fried Onions & Sesame Seeds on top . Another alternative is fresh finely sliced spring onion.
Equipment
- Frying Pan
Notes
Coat-
Corn Flour is a must for this recipe because of its light texture. It gives a crispiness that you can’t achieve with most flours. I wouldn’t recommend reaching for the plain flour on this one, It won’t give you that crispy bite that the tofu requires.
Fry-
I did find that the cornflour coating does take a few minutes to really get that golden colour. Please don’t worry if you feel like its taking forever to get crisp. You just want a light golden colour, even when its pale it still has a crispy texture.
